OCD Checking Fridge Door

Look

Go to the fridge just to make sure it’s doors are closed securely. We may need to give the doors and light press just to make sure the doors are completely flush against the body. For rest of check, we look at where the doors meet the body of the fridge.

Lock

For the lock section, we can imagine a giant pants belt wrapping around both doors securing them against the body of the fridge. Since the strain as the belt gets tighter and tighter. Or we could imagine one of those car trailer tie downs (the ones where there’s a latch that makes the strap get tighter and tighter), securing both doors.

Label

We can then imagine a thin belt wrapped around our waist getting tighter and tighter. It gets so tight that it cuts into our waist, embedding inside. The image I like to use is that of a thin piece of barb wire getting tighter and cutting into my waist. I like to finish off with the barbed wire expanding to 5 times its original size in a split second. This helps the image stay in the memory. Also as the wire is getting tighter and tighter I pull in my stomach as if it’s physically happening in real life.

Leave

Again we seal off the area by putting on the armor around our waist. I know that barb wire is quite a different image to use compared to lock image of a belt. However this doesn’t matter as we only use this image for the fridge so it won’t create any confusion, plus we label this image to our waist every time. Also having barb wire expand like this really helps us to remember that the fridge doors are closed due to its uniqueness and rapid expanding action.
