OCD Checking Large Appliances

Look

When we’re looking to check large appliances like the washing machine, microwave, stereo, television, etc….it’s a good idea to unplug them and have the cord visible as we’re checking. We’ll usually look at the controls as we’re doing this, so having the cord resting on top of the appliance can be a good idea. However, if you tend to fray the electrical cords when doing this then don’t choose this option. Of course, we don’t unplug the fridge or freezer or anything else the requires a constant source of energy.

Lock

As with all electrical items we check we use the image of ice frosting over. So while we’re looking at the control (and cord) of appliance imagine a giant crust of ice crusting over the appliance. The ice can be blue or clear or whatever color makes sense to you. Have fun!

Label

Just before we crust the imaginary ice over the large appliance we place either a foot or hand next to it, or we could choose another body part to freeze if we wanted like an elbow or breast. As the appliance is frosting over… our body part also becomes frozen. We then pull that body part away some of it remains stuck to the frozen appliance. For example, our big toe snaps off if we’re labeling to our foot. Then still looking at the controls we imagine the ice seeping deep into our body part turning black and blue. Next, we drive that image deeper into our memory by imaging a hammer knocking off the rest of our toes or even visualize a skill saw chopping them all off. All this really helps to supercharge our memory.

Leave

Like always we seal off the area with the armor.

Important

We can run into a problem if we need to check a lot of big and small appliances as we may run out of body parts to label too. For most people though like though we won’t need to check every small and large appliance, but if we do we’ll just get more imaginative. We could label (freeze) the side of your hips, our buttocks, our elbows, our knees or even our chin. Also, remember that we’ll be labeling all the power outlets should we need to check them which will further reduce our anxiety.
